Agave Gold
12 x 12 oil on canvas
This painting is one third of a series inspired by a large agave we have in our yard.
I tried to keep the subject colors simple but darkened the outer spines of the plant to emphasize
the sharpness of the leaves. The background sky ranges from a terracotta red to a bright golden
to capture the change of the desert skies of Arizona.
Agave Fact: When agaves flower, they develop a large stalk that can reach 25 ft high!
The plant dies after flowering, but produces suckers that develop from the base and continues it's
growth...a true survivor of the desert.
